coolant leak
hey all,
i recently noticed that my cat is leaking coolant, which appears to drip down from the bell housing. I cant tell for sure since i cant see it, but would assume that its coming from somewhere near the back of the engine. Its not excessive, but from what i read on the other site this could be the infamous heater control valve. Has anyone else had any experience with this problem? Apparently the HCV is pretty hard to get to so if anyone has any pictures of the thing id be ecstatic. thanks.

Re: coolant leak
Thats the famous oil cooler I bet... if its leaking past the gasket or the thermostat... you will get a leak down at the bell housing...
Only way to fix that is to open it and reseal everything.
The other thing could be the heat control valve which is right above there as well.

Re: coolant leak
Well as it turns out, I dove in head first and tried to figure out where it was coming from and replace the timing belt while I was in there and kill 2 birds with one stone. Ended up getting everything off (intake, plenum, belt) and just replaced the HCV. I took one look at the timing belt and realized I had gotten in over my head so I had it towed to the local shop and replaced. Luckily he was even willing to tackle it seeing as I had already started the job. Long story short he told me I should also replace the water pump while we had it broken down so i had that done as well. Needless to say Im not seeing coolant, so im actually not sure where the leak was coming from but i would assume it was either coming from the HCV or the water pump. Guess I dodged a bullet on that one. Either way the engineer that designed the location of the HCV should be drug out into the street and shot. (no offense MV6) :-)

Re: coolant leak
None taken, the problem with these cars is they meet the engine while on a asmbly line and the motor comes from underneath so what you end up with is a part thats impossible to replace unless you have super skinny hands that can squeze through tiny openings and do the work...
IT sux i know...
THe water pump is on the front and I dont think if it was leaking you would get a leak on the bell housing on the rear most likely the HCV went out...
