Lets dedicate this thread to some differences between the 97-99 and 00-01 models in terms of braking power... Any pictures or info would be helpful.

Here are some of the ones that I have collected so far you can clearly see how the non sport models had somewhat different brakes then the sport ones...

The Regular Catera Brakes...

And the sport catera brakes, notice the two little pieces that are sticking out on either side of the pistons with the regular, mine doesnt have them...
Are the non sports single piston rears or what? :hmm:

Can someone please take or post some more pictures of their rear brakes, I need them for comparison...

Thanks

It has nothing to do with facelift (00-01) or Sport all late 2001 cars got the vented rotors and because of the added width of the rotor you got a different caliper. my early 01 sport has the solid rotor. The non sport cars have the same brakes.

Here's something interesting. This is a picture of a 2005 GTO's rear brake. Strange how we have dual (opposed) piston calipers on the Catera but the GTO gets a single piston caliper. And it's similar, if not identical, to our front caliper. The GTO pads are bigger than the Catera's. Not knowing how much hydraulic advantage each car's calipers produce I have to assume by the size of its pads that the GTO rear brakes are more powerful than ours.

Well, the non-sport do have dual-opposing rear calipers. The only difference I see are the fins on the outside facing part of the caliper. Hardware looks identical

I read that those two little things on the sides of the pistons are counter balances. I don't know what improvement that make, if any...

The 97-00 Cars had 40mm Calipers with solid rotors.
The 00-01 Sports came equipped with 42mm Vented rear rotors.
