TireRACK Stop... 245/40-18s

Post by Admin on 5/7/2008, 01:09

[quote author=CateraMV6 link=1207948991/0#0 date=1207948990]Well it was time to upgrade the tires on my car. The wheels that I have are from ASTRA SRi. 18x7.5, and OFFSET is 37mm.

OEM Tires were Dunlop Sport SP01 225/40-18 (OLD TIRES)

NEW Tires are Continental ContiExtremeContact. 245/40-18 (NEW TIRES)

And Pictures from the Installation...

And yes even tire rack can scratch wheels, they scratched mine, and denied it. Luckily it was small enough scratch that can be fixed by buffing.

And here are the comparison pictures between the two tires. Old ones on the left, New ones are on the right.

And here is how they look on the car...

Nice tires, but Omega / Catera looks much much better than the BMW in the same picture.

Have to agree, the Beemers wheels are too fussy.

Question for Admin: The original OEM wheels for the Catera is a 16x7 rim size with 225/55/R16 tires, and if one inches up by two like you did to 18 inches, then to keep the same aspect ratio, shouldn't the proper tire size be 245/35/R18's? Why then did you go with 245/40/18's? Please explain if possible. Is there something I am missing because I will be purchasing new wheels and tire package in a couple weeks and I want to be absolutely sure I am making the right decision since there is a lot of money on the line and there are no returns and/or refunds. Thanks!

My car came with stock 235 45 17s and I replaced those with 245 45 17s... and I liked how it filled the arches up and also reduced the RPMs on the highway just a little bit.

Then when I looked for tires for my 18s I found that the 245 40 18 fits the diameter the closest to the 245 45 17... and so I went with it. Also extra meat on the tire improves ride quality... not too much but its better then the lower profile choice.

I hope this helps
