Limited Slip Differential???
Out of curiousity has anyone replaced their open differential with a limited slip diff from the MV6 Omega? Winter is coming and my thoughts turn to projects. Is the housing the same and will the lsd "guts" fit inside the Catera housing? I'm thinking the guts would be lighter than the whole unit and thus cheaper to ship. Just thinking out loud.

That would be a sweet upgrade but i dont know if it will be worth it.

Like I said, just thinking out loud. To be honest I don't exactly know the advantage on an ordinary street car but all the high performance cars have them and the police Omegas (plods) had them too. At least I'd have bragging rights.
Where you been? You've been sorely missed. Still have your "Omega MV6"?

Yes I still have the car but I will be putting it up for sale. The problem is I am moving to Germany for work and wont be back for at least 2 years. In that time the car will have to sit in storage and I know this will cause certain death for the car. Rust will take over rubber will deteriorate and its just bad way to let a car go. With that said I will probably list it on the forums and see if I can get any serious offers.
The other option is to keep it but as no one will be driving it I am sure that will be much worse so therefore the sell idea.
As for the rear DIFF I will be in Germany and I will see if I can get some parts from there and especially the rear diffs. I know that in a drift with a limited slip the rear feels a lot more controlled. My car in rain gets sideways without much forward pull and eventually stalls and causes a nasty jerk. A car with a limited slip has a lot more forward grip and therefore drifts a lot better and that's why its desired among those who do such things. It also helps with bad weather grip as both tires tend to push rather then just one fighting on its own.
As for the Catera, well recently I had some problems with bad tire wear so I went through and changed the inner and outer tie rod ends, ball joints, control arm bushings. Shortly before that I got new struts and rear shocks. Aligned the car now goes straight for miles and does not pull from side to side on rooted roads. Snow tires are back on and she is ready for some snow fun. Lets just hope we get some snow soon.
Other then that she has been running like a champ and if I wasn't about to sell her I was planning to do a 3.2L swap as my engine is nearing the 1/4 million mile range. I am happy to report though that all other drive train components are functioning beautifully without any oil leaks or looseness.
As for my absence I have been working in mexico since May of this year and haven't spent any time on any of the forums. I will be home for the month of December so you will probably see a little more of me in the coming weeks.

Here is a video I shot from the day she was taken for a test drive before the alignment. The exhaust is really notable.

Few other random shots of how the car looked in the summer and how it did with the OEM wheels ready for winter.
