1998 Catera Rear Negative Camber Empty 1998 Catera Rear Negative Camber

In about two to three weeks, I'm going to replace all four shocks with the Monroe sensatracs for the front and the Max-Airs for the rear. Since I"m going to be under there I decided to lower the car while I'm at it, so I'll also purchase the Intrax lowering springs. My Cat currently has quite some negative camber on both wheels at the rear, and my mechanic is telling me since there is no adjustment for camber at the rear wheels, the only thing he can think of as the reason why I've developed negative camber on the rear wheels are my shocks. Since the shocks are sitting lower than expected, the wheels have no where to go and must compensate by developing negative camber. Is this true? Because if that is the case, then I'm afraid lowering the car is only going to make the situation worse, and the clock is ticking because my tires are new, and they are going to eat away on the insides for sure. Has anyone had this problem? how did you fix it? Is there a camber kit that could be bought for the rear wheels even after lowering it, because the wheels are spaced apart, and its making the car look terrible from the rear. Also, does anyone know if lowering the car will interfere with the auto leveling, if so how do you make the car think its level and the lowered specs? PLEASE HELP!!!

Not entirely, your lower control arms are attached to the body at two locations... the third one si the shock and there is a toe arm there as well...

What you need to do is buy camber adjusting kit from Australia or in the US for the GTO...

Then you need to replace both bushings, and the kit for just one set of 2 was 100$...

So once you install two sets thats 4 bushings you will be able to adjust the control arm in and out... and that will adjust the camber. Only problem is I hear that there are such forces on the rear that often they back out of adjustment and you are left with screwed up alignment...

Id say dont touch them.
My car is at nearly 2.75deg rear camber and it does eat the tires but I have 160k miles on it, and its not destroying them, it simply eats the inside edge a lot faster... so you will need to rotate the tires on the wheels at some poitn to eat the rest of the rubber...

I have had my summer wheels for 3 summers putting in a ton of miles probably 20 - 30k and its not as bad as I was expecting. ON the other hand the car handles great and looks sick...

on the other note, my leveling system was screwed up.(shocks stuck in the up position/leveling light flashing) so since i was lazy i just took the sensor out and hid the harness... the light is out now, and ive never had any problem with the shocks losing air or anything...so its stayed in the same position and never changed. from what i understand, the GTO setup guys have pretty much done the same thing i did.

Where are you getting these lowering springs from? I didnt think they made any for our car. It would be nice to just put some adjustable coilovers in but i dont they make those for us either.

So I was able to get the lowering springs, but the only ones that seem to be available for our car nowadays are Vogtland lowering springs. These spring are actually for the Omega, but since they are the same car, except for a badge, it doesn't matter. The rest seem to have been discontinued and have all been bought up. In my opinion, the springs are great. They are firm enough, and they reduce a lot of body lean. The car sits right above the wheels, and depending on the size of your fingers you should be able to fit a finger in between the fender and the wheel. As for the coilovers, you could probably do that, but i'm not sure if they make any for our car or if they are all just universal, but regardless coilovers were made for track and racing purposes. They will probably be brutally harsh on you and your car for everyday driving depending on your location and the condition of the roads.
