flowtech or cherry bomb placement

Post by chang3d on 1/20/2010, 23:23

I took a look at mv6's set up on YouTube and was wondering if we could replace the two existing mufflers underneath with the red hots, instead of installing infront of them. Or am I completely wrong and the two boxes on the exhaust something other than mufflers? confused

im 99% sure they are mufflers and the one on the tail pipe is a resonator. you can get rid of all three depending on how loud you wanna get...but like i said in the other topic, im probably going to cut off the resonator first and see how it sounds with just the mufflers. Shouldnt be too loud but not too quiet either :-)

The back box after the axle is a resonator... doesnt do much its almost a straight through sutff... that quiets down some of the annoying raspy sounds...

The mufflers under the car in front of th axle are there to quiet down the tone of the car and are quite restrictive...

Buy your choice of straight through mufflers, and have a shop cut them off and install the cherry bombs or flowtechs in that spot.

If you have a chance try to get an X pipe up closer to the cats that will help some as well...

The set up that I have remains quiet in the cabin but people tell me that outside the car sounds sick...

On camera its not so obvious....

Its on the quiet side but has some deep tones between 2-3K... after 4K it screams and sounds quite nice.

The passing gasses through the one side of the pipe causes vacuum and helps pull the exhaust gasses out of the other side...

So in our configuration where the engine fires left right, left right, left right... or 1-2-3-4-5-6... so in this case it should help increase power and improve exhaust flow.

These are very common on V8 cars.

Some V6 cars dont need them but generally, they all can benefit from it.

The flow tech mufflers that I got were from SUMMIT and cost 16$/pc with around 4$ shipping.

The ID was 2"... and they fit perfectly on my car...

Seems OEM OD on the pipes is 2" so the flowtecs fit and all you need is to clamp them down or weld them if you like.

Although about 2 years now with Michigan winters they are quite rusted but still holding up...
As soon as they go out, I am dropping in new ones with X Pipe.

I have been looking around at the exhaust for a new set up and now I am thinking of doing 2 cherry bombs, and also 1 X pipe... but the xpipes sell in sizes of 2.25" so I would need a 2 to 2.25" adaptor to fit the x pipe then runn the two mufflers and the rest is stock...
