Headlight Haze

With age, come beauty and class... oh, yeah, foggy and hazed headlights. To take care of that haze use a light rubbing compound. Don't use heavy duty. Tape off the surrounding area, I'm kind of particular, I taped everything about six inches away. Use a buffer and let it rip, moving the buffer constantly, up, down and sideways. This takes the heavy haze off. Follow up with a plastic polish, there are many out there. I use Meguiars products and went with their plastic polish. I wish I had taken a before and after picture. Perfecto!

Very nice, I actually did the 1000grid sand paper and then the plastic polish and it turned out just as well, I was able to remove some heavy scaring that was on the headlight and some of the hase went away, sadly this year its starting to haze up again so I may have to give it another shot... and see how far I can take it.
In a mean time I might also do a eye lids on there... I will post pictures as soon as make some progress on them.

Eyelids, I'd like to see those.

My hazing comes back quick, here. It's nothing but desert and sun! lol

I'd like to find something to "seal" out the haze.

Clear coat is UV resistant and can seal off the hazing, I have seen it done on a few cars and if its done right it can make the lens look like new, but its clear coat so that can get scratched too... as long as the solvent in the clear doesnt melt the plastic on your headlights you should be good..

I just need to break down and buy the projector headlights I've been eyeing. I think they'd make a good upgrade from the OEMs on the 1999. Looking forward to the eyelids though.

well if you do projectors see if you can get some from European car... NOT UK... they have the backward cutoff...
They are quite expensive here but i have seen them go for 100$/set with HIDs on the German Ebay...
If I get a new set mine are going on here for sale...

When you say 'backward cutoff', what do you mean? My HID's could light up a football stadium! Does the Opel Omega have a different setup to the Vaux Omega? and indeed, the Caddy Catera setup?

Backward meaning the RHD vs a LHD vehicle.. here is a picture that might help.


In the US we use thei first three... in Europe I think its the first one only hence the ECE and the Japanese and UK... they use the RHD set up...
SO if you get headlights from UK you will end up blinding all the people on the opposite side of the road and you will have almost no light output on your right hand side...

It's just a language thing, nothing cut off. we would say dip to the left for RHD or dip to the right for LHD. So yes, uk lights would be no good for across the pond.
