GTO BRAKE SWAP!!!

Post by Admin on 5/7/2008, 01:06

:Smile... well the install is done here are the results...

I upgraded from the single piston Omega Brakes to the dual piston Pontiac GTO brakes and so far I love them.

The brakes work awesome and they seem like they stop way better then the OEM ones so it was well worth the money (100$):

ok enough talk here are the pictures:

They will not fit unless you also change to the 05-06 hub and disc, if that can even be done. Of course now you'll have hubs/discs with a different lug bolt pattern from stock meaning you'll need different wheels fore and aft. Might be the reason far no one has tried it that I know of.

The rear calipers on all Cateras are already twin opposed calipers. One inside, one outside.

For the fronts, do we need to change the front rotors as well?

Nope you can use the OEM rotors.... the calipers center over the rotor exactly, so you dont need to make any changes...

Also the 04 GTOs came with rotors that were same size as the Cateras.... in the 05-06 they moved to larger rotor, so they had to offset the caliper and push it back some to clear....

Okay and just to verify, the rotor size is 11.7in in diameter right? I wonder if any of those GTO guys have another set they are willing to part with...

I think a 13mm, 15mm and 17mm wrenches... I think you may need 19 or 18mm wrench for the bracket mounting bolts.. .

The brake line is 10-11mm the bolts for the calipers are 13-15mm

Thats about it...

Re: GTO BRAKE SWAP!!!

Well neither I suppose...

The bracket is where both pads are installed inside a 1/2" channel and then the caliper simply slides over them. Then the caliper is bolted to the bracket so that neither can move...

It took some simple tools to install mine, and took maybe 2 hours tops to complete the swap.

I will be selling a set soon as well..
